How many times have we said to our children “If you tell the truth, I won’t tell you off” but did so anyway.

How many times have we said “If you do this, I’ll get this for you”. But then later changed your mind because your child was misbehaving.

How many times have we said “You can’t do this” but did it ourselves anyway.

How many times have we had a shar’ee reason for not reading salaah but when our children have asked “Why aren’t you reading yours?” We’ve answered “I’ve already read mine.”

We tell them to speak the truth but don’t give straight answers ourselves. We show hypocrisy in our own actions and expect them to be better people. How can we expect them to turn out “better” when we don’t even show them what “better” is?

The Katibah.
